Organizing for the Holidays: Handy Storage Products to Keep You Organized All Year Round

If you’re like us, gift-buying is only part of the shopping we do this time of year. Since the holidays typically involve entertaining, houseguest, or travel, now is a great time to think through anything that can help us stay more organized. Plus, there are some outstanding ideas to be found! We took a gander through Amazon and spotted some awesome organizing product finds.

1.  Seagrass baskets.

These seagrass-reed baskets have so many uses that we don’t even know where to begin. Place one in the guest bedroom or bathroom to hold extra toiletries and towels for house guests. Or use them to hold holiday books or catalogs and magazines. Or, who wouldn’t love a gift basket where the basket is actually part of the gift? This one is by thirty one (Very You Basket).

2. Hanging gift wrap organizer.

Establishing a gift wrap center keeps all your supplies together, and this hanging organizer makes it super portable, too! This one is also from thirty one (Room for Two Utility Tote)!

3. Coat rack with umbrella stand.

If you lack extra space for guests’ coats, a coat rack in the entry way helps welcome guests and allows them to grab their own coats when it’s time to leave.

4. Bench with cushion seat.

This bench seat has great storage space and extra seating. It would work great in a mudroom or entry way, but would also work great in a kids’ room, play room, craft room… anywhere you could use extra storage and seating!

5. Over door hooks.

In the closet, guest bedroom or bathroom, give your overnight visitors ample space to hang towels, coats and clothes. Over door hooks are an attractive temporary solution!

6. Luggage rack.

If you’ve got overnight guests coming this holiday season, placing a luggage rack in the spare bedroom or guestroom is a simple, welcoming touch to help them stash and access their luggage during their visit.

7. K-cup storage.

This K-cup organizer would be great year round but especially when you have guests. Since it serves as the base of your coffee maker, it doesn’t take up much counter space. Plus visitors can easily serve themselves without having to root through kitchen cabinets.

8. Chalkboard labels.

Labels help everyone know what goes where, and when they’re as cute as these chalkboard labels, the possibilities are endless! Use them as drink markers or gift tags, or to label leftovers or kitchen canisters.

9 . Hanging cosmetic bag.

For travel over the holidays or anytime of the year, the see-through compartments of thishanging cosmetic bag let you keep your cosmetics organized and easily accessible. The smart design means it takes up less space in your suitcase and the bathroom counter. This one is by thirty one too (the Deluxe Beauty Bag!)

10. Over-seat organizer.

If your holiday plans include a road trip, keep the essentials organized and in-reach with this organizer from thirty one.

Also, guys, I know I mentioned this before but this is awesome - DOUBLE HOSTESS GIFTS! I would love to help you with a party and you earn this! How great would that be?!?! Plus, we would have a great time!!

White Weekend - CAUTION: Debbie Downer moment

Happy white Monday! Holy cow…are we all suffering from some form of cabin fever yet? I am in my office at home, looking out into our backyard and all I see is WHITE! ICE! ICE! ICE! ICE! ICE! Yes, it is cool to be stranded at home, watching movies, drinking hot chocolate - on the first night…maybe the second. But when you are going on the FOURTH day of this..it gets old. VERY QUICKLY.

Ok, so I thought I would come to you guys with a product I think would have come in handy this weekend - the About Town Blanket. Sure I have blankets at home but I honestly don't have one in my car. And heaven forbid, something happen and I need a blanket in my car. A friend of mine got one and it is SO CUTE! I know, we don't want to think of accidents and what not but that is what I do for a living so you ALWAYS need a Plan B. Yes, a Plan B! CAUTION - Said Debbie Downer moment: So, what if you get stuck in your car and you need to stay warm…you need a blanket. You need this blanket!! (said with big eyes and weird hypnotizing music)

You can use it for happy things too…like picnics or putting cute babies on them outside …WHEN THE WEATHER COOPERATES! It has a slick bottom so said cute babies won't get stickers or other such nonsense on them.

Here are a couple of photos (who says "photos" anymore?!? Me, apparently.):

outside:

one side is fuzzy and soft and the other side is slick:

See?!?! CUTE, right?!?! And it does not take up too much space. Here are the patterns this handy dandy blanket comes in:

Let me know if you have any questions and as always, thank you for your support!

Talk to you soon,

Your Formula for a Stress Free Holidays!!

Hey there! Happy Thanksgiving Eve, everyone!

I thought I would post something about having a stress free holiday now that we are knee deep in the holiday season!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and if you are traveling - Safe Travels!

Your Formula for a Stress-Free Holiday

posted by Abyno comments
When you see holiday items in the stores this time of year, how does it make you feel? Do you think, “Hooray, the holidays will be here soon?” Or is your response more along the lines of “No, not yet! I don’t want to think about the holidays!” If evidence of the upcoming holidays makes you cringe, then chances are the holidays typically fill you with more stress than joy, and more hustle and bustle than rest and relaxation.
What if I told you I’ve been there, too, but found a better way? I used to see holiday items in the middle of October and think, “Please not before Halloween. I just don’t want to think about the holidays yet.” If this season were something I was truly looking forward to, I wouldn’t have minded. Something was out of sync. On some level I dreaded the holidays instead of looking forward to them. But today all that has changed, because I’ve created a simple formula for my holiday season—one that adds up to a more peaceful season for everyone in my family.
(Want to know my secret formula? Read on!)

Start with a Vision for the Season.

The stress-free holiday formula starts with a crystal-clear vision as to what you want out of the holiday season. Have you ever given that much thought? I hadn’t either, back in the day. Instead, I dove blindly into the season, and simply hoped for the best. Ironically, what I wanted for the holidays was always crystal clear come January. I wished I had spent more time relaxing, and less time rushing around. I wished I had gotten the must-do tasks done earlier, so there was more time to simply enjoy my family and the good stuff the season brings. And there were also those years I wished I had spent less money!
The trouble is this: January isn’t the time to determine what you want out of your holiday season, that’s what late October and early November are for. Take a few minutes now to get clear about your vision for the holiday season. Ask yourself, what’s most important this time of year? Ask your family and friends, too. Then, pull your ideas together to create what I call a holiday inspiration statement—your overall vision for the holiday season.

Add a Plan.

Once you have your overall vision in place, add a plan to your happy holiday equation. Your plan doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated. Instead, make a simple list of all the things you want and need to do during the holiday season. Then, it’s time to add some subtraction to your joyful holiday equation.

gifts in bucketsSubtract Anything that Takes Away from Your Vision.

Give yourself permission to subtract (or strike through!) any optional task or activity on your list that is out of sync with your vision for the holidays. If sending holiday cards makes your blood pressure rise, send postcards instead, opt for Valentine’s cards in February when things are less hectic or skip the cards altogether this year. If wrapping fancy gifts doesn’t make you happy, use gift bags instead. The bottom line is this: When you fill your holiday to-do list with things that really make the season special to you, and take out anything that makes it a bummer, you will enjoy the holidays more.

Divide Your Plan into Small Bites.

Here’s the beauty of creating your list now: You can bite size your holiday preparations and spread tasks out over the weeks ahead. Let’s say your holiday list will take you 40 hours to complete; if you start now, you can spend just five hours a week, or one hour per day Monday through Friday until the holidays begin. (Doesn’t sound too bad, does it?) But if you wait until December 1 to get started, you would have to spend 2.3 hours per day (Monday through Friday), just on holiday preparations. What makes this even more stressful is that it will probably be harder to find those 2.3 hours in December, because your calendar will be brimming with holiday activities and stores with be busier and have longer lines. This, my friends, is why the holidays can be so stressful.
The fix is simple. Divide your plan into small bites by assigning time frames or target deadlines for each of the tasks on your list. If you’re like me and want to have time to relax and enjoy the holidays (perhaps a few quiet nights in front of the fire with a cup of hot cocoa?), then schedule heavy in the early weeks and leave a lot of breathing room in the weeks just before the big holiday.

Add Just a Little Bit of Flexibility.

There are a few people I’ve encountered in my life who resist creating plans, because, well, things just may not go as planned. And that feels like failure. If this sounds familiar, simply add a bit of flexibility to your holiday equation. It’s okay if you can’t carry out your plan perfectly. What I can promise you is this: You’ll come (much!) closer to carrying out your vision for the season if you create a plan than if you don’t. And, if you stay flexible and go with the flow, you’ll be a whole lot happier and full of new year’s cheer come January!

Teacher Gift Ideas

Happy cold Monday, everyone!!
I think everyone knows a teacher in their life (or two or three). If you are struggling with what to give them this year, try one of these ideas.

This is just one of the patterns the Littles Carry-All Caddy comes in!
I personally REALLY like this one. If you are a baker, you could just
fill this with your homemade cookies and/or candies.

I like this idea. Put a couple of "life items" she/he might need
throughout the school year (like cough drops, Tide pen, Crystal Lite packets).
You can even personalize it with his/her name/initial/monogram!

Once they are empty, they can be used in all sorts of ways.
1. You can put you hair accessories in here
2. You can use it to keep a box of tissue and in the pockets - keep hand sanitizer.

3. You can keep markers and/or crayons in there as well.

If you have any questions, please let me know!!

And as always, thank you for your support!

3 Tips to Overcome Feeling Overwhelmed

Happy Thursday everyone!
I think we all can relate to this in some way, shape or form!! Here is the information from Aby's blog…love it. Here are 3 tips to overcome feeling overwhelmed:

  1. Make a list. My go-to strategy when I’m feeling overwhelmed is to get everything out of my head that is vying for my attention. Initially the process of making a list can add to your overwhelmed feelings because all of the stuff that was swimming around in your head is now smack dab in front of you on paper. If that happens to you, remind yourself that you don’t have to do everything on the list right now. Instead, by getting it all out there, you can then decide what is most important to focus on, which is the next tip to try.
  2. Narrow your point of focus. My class participant’s husband gave her terrific advice when she was feeling overwhelmed. He asked her what was bothering her the most. This simple question allowed her to narrow her point of focus. We often feel overwhelmed when we are trying to process and do too much all at once. By getting everything out of your head and narrowing your point of focus, you can then start taking action, which is the most powerful antidote to overwhelmed feelings.
  3. Become aware of your self-talk. What do you say to yourself when you feel overwhelmed? If your inner dialogue is not supportive, then you’re simply adding to your stressed out feelings. Instead, picture yourself encouraging a friend or loved one who is feeling overwhelmed. What would you say to them? Change your inner dialogue to the same encouragement you would offer to someone else in the same situation.
Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, by clutter in your home or your holiday to-do list, give these three ideas a try!

Your Organizing Efforts Don't have to Unravel During the Holidays!!

The holiday season is a time when it’s easy for our organizing efforts to start to unravel. If you’d rather wake up on New Year’s Day with something other than “get organized” at the top of your resolutions list, give these three ideas a try.

1. Re-commit to the daily 15.

Declutter for 15 minutes a day
One of the very best ways I know to get organized and stay organized is to spend 15 minutes a day focusing on keeping your home organized. During busy times like the holidays, that 15 minutes may be spent dealing with surface clutter that crept up throughout the day, as opposed to moving ahead on a bigger project. Make it your goal to spend a little bit of time each day keeping yourself on the comfortable side of surface clutter. Doing so will ease your stress throughout the season and prevent a big clutter backlog to deal with in January. So if you’ve fallen off the 15 minute a day bandwagon (or you never got on it in the first place) now is the perfect time to recommit!

2. Keep some breathing room on your calendar.

If finding fifteen minutes a day to stay organized feels like it will be hard to come by, then you may tend to over-schedule during the holidays. If so, make it a point this year to be intentional about how you spend your time. Keep some breathing room in your calendar (blocks of time where you plan nothing) so you have time to catch your breath and recharge your batteries.

3. Create some breathing room in your home.

Before the holiday season gets into full swing, allocate a few “daily fifteen” sessions to create breathing room. If you have young children, declutter their toys to create space for new items on their way. Clear some space in the kitchen cupboards or pantry for holiday baking items and seasonal food. (This will keep items off the counter during the holidays!) Create room for guests’ coats by culling through the coat closet and letting go of anything that no longer fits. The breathing room you create now will have a huge payoff in December.
If you’ve worked hard this year to create order in your home, it doesn’t have to unravel over the holiday season. Put into play a few simple tips and strategies, and you can ring in the new year already organized.
What strategies do you use to stay organized during the holidays? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
I really like her blog and thought you guys might like it too. I will probably post more suggestion on here but here is a link to it - http://www.simplify101.com/organize/

Hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday!

Perfect Bottle Thermal

Good morning!
I can't believe we are more than half way through November! Where does the time go?!?!?

I know a lot of you are planning parties or planning to attend parties. This time of year is so much fun with the crisp air and soup aromas in the air. I am obsessed with making soups this year. I love soup!

ANYWAY, here is something I just got that I think is so cute and a perfect way to greet your party hostess…with a perfect bottle thermal.

Here is the flap (I really don't like that word but that is what it is!!).
You can do your initial, your monogram or someone actually put the word SIP.
I thought that was cute.
You can also get this in other colors - Yellow would be cute!?

The magic happens inside. If it was cold, it will stay cold - you know
how thermals work.

Side view - without a bottle inside (obviously).

Please let me know if you have any questions!
